Recordings

As an active performer in the NYC/Tri-state area, I am always staying busy with a plethora of recording sessions. Whether it is impromptu sessions with friends, professional settings with orchestras or string quartets, or rock n’ roll sessions with local bands, I keep busy with a large variety of music and experiences. Thus, I also enjoy having lots of different digital media to show for it! This page of the site is meant to share some of that with you, in the form of Music (mp3).

“Janine” (originally written by Arthur Russell) Pulled Punches – “One Day” (2013)

Audio MP3

This is a song off of a new Pulled Punches record, “Janine” by Arthur Russell. This is one we were playing a bunch a few years back, and while it took us a minute to get these sessions out where the world could hear ’em, I think it was well worth the wait. Recorded with some great friends, Phil Weinrobe, Michael Penque, James Hirschfeld, Brendan McGrath, and produced by Shazhad Ismaily, you can check out the rest of the record at http://pulled-punches.com/album/one-day

“Whitedaughter” – Ponyhof – Demos (2010)

Audio MP3

This is a rough demo from my indie-rock group “Ponyhof”. We are looking at recording our first proper record this Spring (2013), but until then this will have to suffice. Amazing musicians Carrie Erving, Robert Sahm, and Ricky Petraglia round out the rest of a group that plays out regularly in Brooklyn and Manhattan – come check us out! You can hear and see a little more at www.ponyhofmusic.com

“The Ledge” (originally by Fleetwood Mac) Pulled Punches- “Pulled Punches” (2010)

Audio MP3

This is a track from my new self-titled EP “Pulled Punches”,  with good friend Phil Weinrobe. On this track in particular I play cello and vibes. If you want to get right to the cello-ness cuz you’re on this site just to see what I got, go to 1:18 for the big time cello solo…but stick around for the pedal steel, because it is pretty sweet! The song is called “The Ledge”, and is a Fleetwood Mac cover from the record “Tusk”. This record was GREAT fun to make (although it took a long time!) and can be purchased at www.pulled-punches.com

“Fantasiestucke- I. Zart und mit Ausdruck”-composed by R. Schumann, performed by Chris Loxley- (2006)

Audio MP3

Here is a little sample of some classical playing, for those of you who are here to hear my classical chops! This is admittedly from a good couple of years ago, but new recordings will be added and phased in and out all of the time on this website. This is from a Master’s Recital of mine from University of Colorado at Boulder, studying with my great teacher Judith Glyde. Hope you enjoy!

“The Alps and Their Orange Evergreen”- Akron Family- “Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free”- (2009)

Audio MP3

This is a track from Akron/Family, an awesome band that I had the pleasure of working with for their record “Set Em’ Wild, Set Em’ Free”. I love this band and this record, and it was a pleasure to track on 3 or 4 of the songs on this album. I pick this one because I believe that it is a gorgeously conceived tune. Check these guys out if you haven’t heard of ’em, I know they have a few shows around NYC in February and March…http://www.akronfamily.com/

“Wildflowers”- Marcus Guy Band (2009)

Audio MP3

This one, “Wildflowers”, is a beautiful song from my uncle, Marcus Guy. Marcus is a singer/songwriter currently located outside of Albany, NY with a penchant for soulful lyrics and good writing. You can check out more of his stuff at http://www.myspace.com/marcusguyband

“Your House”- Pulled Punches, self-titled, 2010

Audio MP3

Here’s another track from the Pulled Punches record I thought you might enjoy. After some cello pizzicato at the beginning, this track has my playing a bunch of different synths, as well as Rhodes, however at the end the cello has a very interesting group of harmonies for your ears. Enjoy!

“Violent Love”- Marigold Opera Project (2011)

Audio MP3

This is a new project that we are just getting off the ground, but one that I am very excited about. The group has somewhat of an “orchestral” instrumentation, including cello, violin, french horn, sax/clarinet, drums, vibes, and piano/guitar. However, we are trying to flesh out this ornamentation over what could be called pop songs….certainly still experimenting (and mixing, for that matter), but I wanted to give people a listen early on.
